What personal data I collect and why

Cookies and User Data

If you leave a comment on this site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Furthermore, some of external services on this site (i.e. analytics, forms, embeds) may use cookies / collect user data. They have their own policies, and they are listed in following sections.

I do not sell your personal data or use them for purposes other than clearly intended – more on that below.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

Gravatar Users:
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Anti Spam Software

The service used to detect spammy comments on this site is called AntiSpam Bee.
Quoting from their page:
“The plugin does not save private user data and is 100% compliant with GDPR.”

Contact form

As of April 2023, this site no longer uses “contact form” as a way for visitors to contact the webmaster/artist.

Previous correspondences, if any saved, will be kept privately. In case you’d like to make sure your name/contact info is safe/discarded, please contact (via email) with your request.

News Letter Subscription

Nutshell: Your Name and e address will be kept and used solely for sending you my e-newsletters. That said….
Recently, I switched back the News Letter service from Gumroad to Mailchimp.

A link to their privacy policy is the following:

Analytics

This site no longer uses analytics service. A service called Statcounter was in use until a few years ago. Deleted the service since and is still to an extent tracking part of visitors.

Website “plugins” – installed to make the site work better, in this case, Statcounter WordPress plugin – often leave code snippets in database, so even if the plugin is uninstalled, it will remember the settings if in case re-installed by the webmaster.
So this behavior is not sinister but is potentially still tracking your visit.

If this bothers you, please choose “REJECT ALL COOKIES” on the pop-up cookie alert starts with “Sorry to bother you…”. Site works just fine :).

As of October 2018, embedded contents on this site are only from vimeo.com and here is their privacy policy

E-Mails

E-mail exchanges ( with contact e-mail address wave@yukonagai.art ) are hosted at a service called TutaNota and their about page states:

“Tutanota is based on the data privacy principles “data minimization” and “privacy by design”.
“Due to the encryption, we can not scan your emails. We do not track you. We do not send targeted advertisements to your mailbox.”

Their Privacy Policy is

There is also an option to password protect our communication.

Payment Processing / Shopping Cart

Payment transaction / digital downloads are managed / hosted by a service called Gumroad.

Following is a summary from their very helpful guide for you as a customer.

As a seller the information I will see are:
“-Your email address used for the purchase
-Your name or any other information that you enter into the field at checkout
They (=sellers) do not see your credit card information or the name on your card.
(From a paragraph titled: “Your privacy”)

Furthermore, as a shopping service provider Gumroad is:
-using secure TLS encryption protocol
-and processes your payment “using PCI compliant service provider”.
Meaning, “your payment details are not stored anywhere when you buy on Gumroad. We don’t have access to your credit card information—only a token that represents your credit card. The same goes for your PayPal details. “
Hence your data is safe even if in case Gumroad’s security is compromised.
(From a paragraph titled: “Buying on a secure browser”)
